MOUNT ROYAL — Ammonite Stone 3D Mural
This project began in a small one-bedroom apartment. The furniture and finishes were beautiful — clearly chosen with a luxury feel in mind — but one wall let the whole room down: a large mirror, hung there simply to make the space feel bigger. It didn't add any character, and next to such nice furniture, that one wall felt flat and a little cheap. Visiting the apartment, I proposed a different idea: a stone slab mural with fossilized ammonites and veins of gold running through the texture. The client loved it right away — it was exactly the kind of detail that could match the luxury feel of the rest of the room, instead of working against it. The mural was built in layers: plaster first, to sculpt a real stone-like texture, then hand-painted to bring out the fossils and the gold. The result is a genuine 3D effect, not just an illusion of one. What I love most about this project is how the mural pulled the whole apartment together. The furniture, the colors, that one problem wall — everything suddenly felt like it belonged together.
